Tiago Monteiro qualifies in the top five on his full-time WTCR return: “I’m back!”

Tiago Monteiro put any doubters to rest over his performance, after the Portuguese driver qualified the KCMG Honda Civic TCR in fourth position for the final race today in Morocco, following on from a competitive points finish with a sixth-place on Saturday.

The 42-year-old Portuguese driver was the fastest of all four of the Hondas, the day after the sister Münnich Motorsport squad scored a 1-3 result in the first race with drivers Esteban Guerrieri and Néstor Girolami.

Monteiro was two-tenths off of Frédéric Vervisch’s stunning pace in Q2, and then planted the Honda in fourth for todays’ Race 3 after his top-five shootout lap, which was set on old tyres.

“It was important to make a statement and prove we are back 100%,” said Monteiro.

“I mean I had no doubts, but you never know until you are here. I’m very happy, and very excited about this. It was a good reward for all the people that have worked hard with me for these last two years.
