Frédéric Vervisch nearly missed out on his pole position start due to electrical gremlin

Morocco Race 3 pole-sitter Frédéric Vervisch nearly missed out on his pole position start for Race 3 after the Comtoyou Racing Audi driver suffered a technical problem on the formation lap.

The Belgian has secured a comfortable pole position in the Audi RS 3 LMS in the morning’s qualifying session, and started ahead of the two Lynk & Co 03 TCRs of Yvan Muller and Thed Björk for the final race of the day.

At the start, the problem meant he was unable to use the normal start procedure and didn’t get away as well as he could, and dropped behind both the Cyan Racing machines into Turn 1.

“I didn’t expect this pole position and this pace we have,” said Vervisch. “I’m shocked but in a good way and extremely happy, as we recovered from a not-so great day yesterday, where we were almost last.

“I almost didn’t start Race 3 as we had an electronics problem; we tried to get a new steering wheel, but then we couldn’t so I had to restart everything while I was on my outlap” he explained. “We shut everything down and it worked, but at the start I didn’t have the normal things we should have so I didn’t move at the start.

“But the good thing is we have points, and it’s a long championship. We need points to win this championship, so let’s see from here.”
