Gabriele Tarquini keeps in touch with second victory of the year in Hungary

Reigning champion Gabriele Tarquini is just 21 points away from the championship lead in fourth after a strong weekend at the Hungaroring, going from fourth to first in the final race of the weekend to claim victory ahead of his Hungarian team-mate Norbert Michelisz.

The Italian has now scored two victories, the same number as new championship leader Néstor Girolami, benefitting from a brief engine blip from early race leader Esteban Guerrieri’s Honda in Race 3 which allowed him to take the lead of the race.

“It was a fantastic race. Unfortunately for Norbi, I made two very good starts, last year and this year,” said the BRC Racing Hyundai driver.

“This year it was very good. Norbi tried to put pressure on me, because he was very fast, but my car was the best of the season. I chose a different set-up and it was working very well. I’m happy because I need these points for the rest of the season. You never know whether you’ll need them in the end. It’s a long way to go, but I’m very pleased to win in Marrakech and also in Hungary.”
