Benjamin Leuchter: “In my mind, I’m P2 on the grid”
Benjamin Leuchter was the top qualifying Volkswagen driver at Zandvoort, putting his Golf GTI TCR sixth in qualifying, fifth on the grid after Ehrlacher’s grid penalty, but the German says after his career-best qualifying, it feels to him like second on the grid.
The 31-year-old was just behind the Cupra TCR of Mikel Azcona, and one spot ahead of his Sébastien Loeb Racing team-mate Johan Kristoffersson in the 30-minute session.
“I’m really happy with my performance,” said Leuchter to TouringCarTimes.
“The car felt really good. I know this track quite well so that helps, but in my mind I’m P2 on the grid, as there’s nothing we can do about the Lynk & Cos.
“It’s strange as from Mikel to P15 it’s really close as it has been all year, just three-tenths of a second, but they’re seven-tenths away from us – so there’s nothing we can do about them today.”
