Jean-Karl Vernay given penalty for contact with Nicky Catsburg

WRT driver Jean-Karl Vernay has been handed a 15-second penalty in Race 1 at Zandvoort, which drops the Frenchman from 11th to 22nd in the final order, after an incident with BRC Racing Team driver Nicky Catsburg.

Vernay and Catsburg made contact at Turn 10, with Vernay then deemed to have deliberately run into the side of Catsburg’s Hyundai i30 N TCR again.

The contact was deemed as “unnecessary, and did not confirm to the standard of driving.”

Vernay’s penalty elevates fellow Audi driver Niels Langeveld into the points positions, and hands the two Münnich Hondas of Esteban Guerrieri and Néstor Girolami to score another point each, with Guerrieri now 11 points clear of Lynk & Co’s Thed Björk heading into tomorrow’s race.
