Esteban Guerrieri happy to have maximised on tough weekend for Honda

Esteban Guerrieri kept the Münnich Motorsport team on the top of the drivers’ and teams’ points table, despite a tricky weekend for Honda at Zandvoort, making the most of the reversed grid pole position for Race 2 to take his second win of the season.

Along with 11th in Race 1 and eighth in Race 3, Guerrieri scored enough points to move ahead of his Honda team-mate Néstor Girolami to take the lead of the drivers’ table, and stay ahead of Cyan Racing’s Thed Björk, despite the Swede taking both of the other race wins.

“I’m leading the championship, which is great, and is thanks to a really amazing team effort on a weekend when we haven’t had the fastest car,” said Guerrieri.

“We put everything together when it really counted; in Q2, we got the reversed-grid pole and won the race, which helped us maximise what was possible. Winning here at Zandvoort is special for me because it’s a fantastic circuit, but it’s not somewhere I’d had many good results in the past. We need to work really hard to stay on top at the Nürburgring.”
