Jean-Karl Vernay and Andy Priaulx hit with grid penalties in Germany

Jean-Karl Vernay and Andy Priaulx have both been given grid penalties for Race 1 at the Nürburgring. The penalty is for not respecting the Code 60 warning. which was in place while PWR Racing’s Mikel Azcona was stopped at Bergwerk.

WRT Audi driver Vernay had qualified in seventh, and Cyan Racing’s Andy Priaulx in 17th, but both will now start 16th and 24th respectively following their penalties, with Priaulx basically put to the back of the grid, bar the three cars being given permission to start after failing to set qualifying times.

Ma Qing Hua, in the Mulsanne Racing Alfa Romeo, technically qualified outside of the 105%, but has been given permission to start, as has PWR Racing’s Mikel Azcona, who caused the Code 60, and the Comtoyou Racing Audi of Niels Langeveld, who missed the session due to damage sustained at the end of Free Practice 2.

The Code 60 is an endurance racing rule which is also used in the competing series this weekend, which when enacted, requires cars to slow to 60km/h in the affected area.
