Johan Kristoffersson leads Volkswagen 1-2 in final practice at the Nürburgring
Johan Kristoffersson was fastest of all in practice in the final practice session at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, finishing seven-tenths of a second ahead of team-mate Rob Huff, with Comtoyou Racing’s Niels Langeveld finishing the session both third, and in the barriers.
Langeveld set the first competitive lap in the session in his Audi RS 3 LMS, with a time of 8:58.014, over 1.9 seconds faster than Rob Huff’s time from the first session.
Huff however managed to go just under a tenth of a second quicker in his Sébastien Loeb Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR with just over ten minutes to go.
Then reigning Scandinavian champion Johan Kristoffersson took over, setting a time of 8:57.185 in his SLR Volkswagen Golf.
No other improvements followed, after Langeveld crashed out his Audi at the Mini Carousel in the final moments, with a yellow flag held at the corner protecting the Dutch driver’s broken Audi.
Néstor Girolami was the fastest of the Hondas in fourth for Münnich Motorsport, with Nicky Catburg, another driver who is competing in both the World Touring Car Cup races as well the 24 Hour race this weekend, fifth and the best of the Hyundais.
Tom Coronel was the fastest Cupra in seventh for Comtoyou Racing, just ahead of the best-placed Lynk & Co, that of Thed Björk in eighth, who was 4.7 seconds off the pace.
Qualifying for Friday evening’s Race 1 is next at 15:30 CEST.
