Jean-Karl Vernay and Frédéric Vervisch excluded, teams announce appeal

The Audi RS 3 LMSs of Jean-Karl Vernay and Frédéric Vervisch were both excluded from the results of Race 1 late on Saturday night after a technical infringement was discovered in post-race scrutineering. The two teams, WRT and Comtoyou Racing, have announced their intention to go to the FIA International Court of Appeal.

Vernay had crossed the line in tenth, picking up six points to his championship tally, while Vervisch, Audi’s best-placed driver in the championship, had finished in 21st and well outside of the points after starting last on the grid following an engine change.

The two drivers were excluded after they were discovered to have exceeded the boost limits set by the FIA Balance of Performance chart in the race, with Vervisch’s car hitting 0.44% and Vernay’s 0.45%, with the limit set a 0.30%.

WRT and Comtoyou Racing have appealed the result, with Audi Sport customer racing stating that the purpose of the appeal is to clarify some ambiguous elements in the FIA procedure.
