Yvan Muller not thinking about the championship despite high-scoring weekend

Four-time World Touring Car champion Yvan Muller says the championship is still not the focus, despite taking two victories and a podium finish over the course of the weekend in China, and catapulting up to third in the standings, just one point behind previous leader Esteban Guerrieri.

The Cyan Racing driver qualified his Lynk & Co 03 TCR on pole position on both days, and went on to win Race 1 and Race 3, while driving through from tenth to third in Race 2, amassing 76 points over the course of the weekend.

The haul puts him just 17 points behind new championship leader Norbert Michelisz, who made the most of his front row on the reversed grid second race to win Race 2.

“I was already very satisfied yesterday with the pole and the victory,” said Muller.

“This morning we could confirm the pole position, and then in Race 2, I was pleased with P7 and my friends helped me to win the podium.”

Muller won the final race of the weekend ahead of his team-mate Yann Ehrlacher, and his friend and former team-mate Gabriele Tarquini, sharing the podium for the second weekend in a row with his nephew Yann.

With three races left, Muller still isn’t focussing on the standings, although is now the best-placed Lynk & Co driver, after leaping ahead of team-mate Thed Björk over the course of the weekend.

“We are still far away there are still a lot of points, and we saw that last year, so there’s no point to think about the championship yet.”
