DTM could return to Russia in 2020 for its ‘mystery race’

The DTM could return to Russia next season after a three-year absence, with the third round of 2020 taking place at the newly-developed Igora Drive circuit, according to motorsport-total.com.

DTM’s umbrella organisation ITR announced the 2020 calendar two weeks ago, with a vacant third slot at the end of May for a ‘mystery race’.

Many circuits have been rumoured to take the slot, from Austria’s Salzburgring to a visit to the Monaco street circuit, something fueled by Prince Albert’s visit to the DTM paddock at the Norisring.

The Russian circuit is however expected to be announced connected to this weekend’s season finale at Hockenheim.

The Igora Drive circuit is designed by Hermann Tilke and opened this month, boasting a FIA Grade 2 license, with FIA president Jean Todt visiting the construction works at the end of 2018.

Should the Russian venue be confirmed, the series would have six out of ten races outside of Germany.

The series have hosted races in Russia from 2013 to 2017 at the Moscow Raceway.
