Agustín Canapino: “One of the hardest races ever”

Agustín Canapino won the Super TC2000 season opener in Buenos Aires, beating Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina driver Matías Rossi by just 0.1 seconds. The Chevrolet YPF driver said it was one of the toughest races he has ever been in.

“It was one of the hardest races I ever had,” said Canapino to TouringCarTimes.

“If I hadn’t overtaken Matías at the start it’d have been impossible, he had a very strong car and he’s not likely to make mistakes. I had to defend myself until the end.”

Superior grip in the slower corners was key to the victory according to Canapino.

“Matías was faster than me in medium and fast corners, but I was quicker in the slow ones. That allowed me to defend myself on the main straight, but I had to lock up my brakes all the time,” said Canapino.

The second Super TC2000 round will include grid penalties for the top eight drivers of the championship standings.

“It’s impossible to win with the penalties, so you must qualify as high as you can and recover,” said Canapino.

“Still, with the new aero package it’s a bit easier to stay behind a car and the performance of the car will change as the race progresses. So we will have to wait and see.”
