Nürburgring 24 hour success for Catsburg, Guerrieri and Monteiro

Nicky Catsburg, Esteban Guerrieri and Tiago Monteiro continued their Nürburgring weekend successfully after the WTCR races in the 24 hour race.

Hyundai WTCR driver Catsburg claimed the overall victory for BMW team Rowe Racing with co-drivers Nick Yelloly and Alexander Sims.

“That was so difficult at the finish,” said Catsburg. “Every lap I was pushing and the chasing Audi of Mirko Bortolotti and Christopher Haase was getting closer in that last hour and I had to push really hard to stay in front.

“But we did and I am super happy for Rowe Racing, BMW Motorsport and thankful to Alex and Nick for doing a great job. Now I can add the Nürburgring 24 to the Spa 24 victory I had with BMW!”

Honda drivers Guerrieri and Monteiro managed to claim the TCR class victory for Castrol Honda Racing.

“Two years, two wins in a row against the Hyundais once again,” said Monteiro.

“It was much tougher this year, even though there was a longer red flag, but the conditions were very hard – there was lots of rain, it was very cold, very slippery, and we always had the Hyundais on the same lap or just behind trying to catch us and pushing us to our limits.”

“I’m very happy with the victory, it was a nice experience and a nice moment when we crossed the line,” said Guerrieri.

“It was tough; really tough last night, I had to drive in the worst conditions just before the red flag. It was one of the most difficult moments I have had behind the wheel because of the situation, not only because it was a long-distance race, but also under the conditions – it was foggy, there were many cars crashing, lots of recovery vehicles, all this. It was a real Green Hell in there!”
