Néstor Girolami taken to hospital following high-speed crash

Néstor Girolami has been taken to hospital following a high-speed crash on the final lap of the second World Touring Car Cup race at the Slovakiaring.

The Münnich Motorsport driver was tagged by Jean-Karl Vernay at Turn 2 while defending fourth position, sending the Argentinian driver hard in to the barriers.

Girolami was able to exit the car unaided and the Honda team has issued the following statement on the incident:

“Néstor Girolami was taken to the medical centre to be assessed. Bebu is reported to be OK, but will be taken to local hospital for further precautionary checks.”

The barriers were heavily damaged in the incident but has been repaired in time for the Race 3 start at 14:45 CEST.
