Nicky Catsburg on debut WTCR win: “It’s unbelievable”

Hyundai driver Nicky Catsburg claimed his maiden World Touring Car Cup win in the final race of the Slovakiaring weekend.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Catsburg.

“We knew the car would be good if we could get in front – and it was.”

The Team Engstler driver started third but was able to get past Norbert Michelisz at Turn 2 when his Hyundai colleague was hit by Jean-Karl Vernay.

“The start was amazing. I was able to pass Norbi and Nathanaël. I don’t know what happened to Norbi, I think he was hit from behind. Then Jean-Karl was not making mistakes, so I had to keep my foot down,” said Catsburg.

Catsburg is placed tenth overall in the standings as the best placed Hyundai driver, trailing points leader Yann Ehrlacher by 60 points.
