Esteban Guerrieri delighted with double pole

Esteban Guerrieri said he was delighted with the double pole position in Hungary that allowed him to make up ground in the World Touring Car Cup title race.

The Münnich Motorsport driver was the man to beat across Saturday in tricky wet conditions at the Hungaroring, topping every session of the day with the exception of Q2, where he ran second to the Cupra of Mikel Azcona.

Topping both Q1 and Q3 however ensured that Guerrieri will start races one and three from pole and also ensured a maximum score of ten points before the lights even go our for the start of racing – allowing him to move up to third in the standings, taking seven points off Yann Ehrlacher in the process.

“I’m really happy – and really happy for the team as they have given me a great car all day,” he said. “It’s a shame for Azcona to not be able to do his Q3 lap as that happened to me when I first started to race in the WTCC and it isn’t nice. However I’m very happy for us and it’s great for all four Honda drivers to be in the top four.

“I’m pleased with how the team has worked and we need to take the opportunity to score some good points tomorrow, The weather should be dry and we’ve done a good job so far – we have to see what happens in the races.”
