Mitchell Cheah sent to back of the grid for Sunday races
Mitchell Cheah has been sent to the back of the grid for all of Sunday’s season-concluding WTCR races at Aragón after failing to stop at the weighbridge in qualifying.
Cheah is replacing Nicky Catsburg at Hyundai Team Engstler this weekend, and had gone 21st fastest in qualifying – slowest of those to record a time.
The penalty, which strips the Malaysian of all of his qualifying times, therefore has little actual impact on the final grids.
Gábor Kismarty-Lechner has also been handed a penalty, dropping five places on the grid for Race 1. This is due to his Zengő Motorsport Cupra having entered pit lane 15 seconds too late at the start of qualifying. The penalty also carries a €300 fine.
Kismarty-Lechner, however, had failed to record a time in qualifying anyway, so remains at the back of the grid.
As previously reported, Honda’s Attila Tassi will also start towards the back of the pack in Race 1 following an engine change.
