WTCR confirms 22 car full season entry

Organisers of the FIA World Touring Car Cup have a confirmed a full season entry of 22 cars for the 2021 campaign, which kicks off in Germany next month.

The entry list features a mixture of youth and experience, with three former WTCR champions alongside three drivers who have clinched the World Touring Car Championship crown.

Nine of the drivers entered are under 25 with four eligible for the new FIA WTCR Junior Driver Title, whilst Jessica Bäckman will become the first woman to compete in WTCR when she lines up with Target Competition.

Five different manufacturers are represented through customer racing programmes, with the possibility of further cars being added on a race-by-race basis.

The grid includes a number of new cars in the shape of the Hyundai Elantra N TCR and the latest Audi RS 3 LMS

“Not only is the WTCR all-season entry list for 2021 big on quantity, it’s also very big on quality with a really high level of drivers set to take part, including nine 25 or under, plus the WTCR’s first female driver, Jessica Bäckman,” WTCR director Xavier Gavory said.

“Providing the essential supporting role are 11 highly professional and dedicated teams, while five customer racing departments are actively engaged in WTCR campaigns with all cars equipped with Goodyear tyres and using sustainable biofuel from P1 Racing Fuels for the first time.

“Although we’re still a few weeks away from the start of the new season the ingredients are all in place for another epic year of FIA World Touring Car racing.”
