Azcona, Tassi and Girolami hit with post-race penalties at Estoril
Mikel Azcona, Attila Tassi and Néstor Girolami were handed penalties following the FIA World Touring Car Cup race weekend at Estoril.
Cupra driver Azcona was handed a 10-second penalty after Race 1 for hitting Hyundai driver Luca Engstler. The penalty drops him from sixth to tenth position.
Münnich Motorsport driver Tassi was given a 5-second penalty in Race 1 for “forcing Car #11 (Björk) out of the track” at Turn 1.
Tassi finished the race in seventh, a position he keeps despite the penalty, as Azcona was dropped behind him following his penalty.
The two penalties elevates Lynk & Co driver Thed Björk from eighth to sixth position.
Honda driver Girolami’s nightmare weekend continues as he has been handed a three-place grid drop for the coming race in Spain and two penalty points for causing the first corner crash of Race 1.
Girolami braked too late and hit Norbert Michelisz, who subsequently hit the back of Tassi’s car. Both Girolami and Michelisz were forced to retire due to the incident.
