Mikel Azcona: “Our cars are not on the same BoP level as the rest”

Mikel Azcona was left frustrated after the FIA World Touring Car Cup qualifying session at the Estoril that saw the Cupra driver down in 13th position, 1.2 seconds from pole.

“Our cars are not on the same level as the rest, in BoP terms I mean,” said Azcona in the post-qualifying Eurosport broadcast.

“We’re really frustrated, P13 is a really bad position for the races. 1.2 seconds to the first car is too much.”

The Spaniard has had a tough start to the 2021 season with Zengo Motorsport, leaving the season opener at the Nürburgring without points.

“The Cupras at the moment are very heavy cars. I mean, I was pushing like crazy and we have nothing more,” said Azcona.

Azcona’s team-mate had an equally difficult Estoril qualifying, with Rob Huff in 18th, Jordi Gené in 21st and Bence Boldizs in 22nd and last position.
