Mikel Azcona beats Norbert Michelisz in close qualifying at Most

Mikel Azcona claimed pole position in a close FIA World Touring Car Cup qualifying session at Most in the Czech Republic.

The Cupra driver beat Hyundai driver Norbert Michelisz by just 91 thousands of a second.

Points leader Yann Ehrlacher put his Lynk & Co 03 TCR in third position, 0.130 seconds from pole, beating Honda driver Esteban Guerrieri by just three thousands of a second.

Former points leader Jean-Karl Vernay was slowest of the Q3 drivers in fifth position, three tenths of a second from Azcona.

Audi driver Nathanaël Berthon missed out on making it to Q3 by 47 thousands of a second and had to settle for sixth position.

The Lynk & Co duo of Thed Björk and Yvan Muller claimed positions seven and eight.

Honda driver Néstor Girolami was ninth fastest while local hero Petr Fulín claimed tenth position and the reversed grid pole position.

Disaster struck for Cyan Racing driver Santiago Urrutia who was eliminated in Q1, only managing 15th position.

The first race of the weekend starts at 14:15 CEST on Sunday.
