Jordi Gené and Attila Tassi hit with grid penalties

Cupra driver Jordi Gené and Honda driver Attila Tassi will get grid penalties for two separate incidents during WTCR qualifying at Adria, in which the stewards deemed they had blocked other drivers on flying laps.

Gené was shown blue flags while exiting the pit lane and failed to see Yvan Muller approaching in his Lynk & Co 03 TCR, impeding the Frenchman.

The Hungarian Honda driver meanwhile was warming his tyres between Turn 3 and 4 and ended up impeding the Audi of Tom Coronel.

Both drivers were punished with a three-place grid drop, which makes no difference in the case of Gené as he was due to start last as all Cupras endured a torrid qualifying session at Adria.

Tassi had qualified eleventh for the first race and will drop to 14th. This promotes Gabriele Tarquini and Hyundai colleague Jean-Karl Vernay, as well as Nathanaël Berthon by one place each for tomorrow’s race.
