Éric Cayrolle makes comeback as wild card entry for Pau-Ville

Éric Cayrolle will make his touring car return in the 2022 FIA World Touring Car Cup opener at Pau-Ville as a wild card entry for Comtoyou Racing.

“I know the competition is very tough in WTCR and because I have not driven front-wheel drive for 20 years it will be hard and the car is not what I am used to,” said Cayrolle.

“Everything will be difficult for me but I have set no target apart from to enjoy myself.”

The 59-year-old’s last touring car outing was 13 years ago, taking part in one WTCC race weekend for Sunred Engineering at Pau-Ville in 2009 – finishing eighth in the main race.

Cayrolle has since then mainly raced in GTs, taking part in two French GT4 Cup races in 2019 as his last outing.

The five-time French touring car champion will drive an Audi RS 3 LMS in the Pau-Ville WTCR opener next weekend.

“I am just doing this race [as a wildcard] and I went to Vallelunga to test the car,” said Cayrolle.

“I drove for about 50 laps so I have some understanding about the car and, of course, I know Pau. And as a circuit in a town you cannot make a mistake.”
