Yann Ehrlacher laments tyre issues at the Nürburgring

There was an unusual amount of tyre failures during the two free practice sessions of the first WTCR day at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and reigning champion Yann Ehrlacher was one of the drivers suffering.

“It’s only free practice but we are already on the limit. The problem is that we struggle with tyre issues and at the moment we do not have the solution to solve it,” said Ehrlacher.

The Cyan Racing driver was fastest in the first practice session and third in the second, but had to abort his last attempt due to a tyre issue.

“It was quite a good day with first in FP1 and third in FP2,” said Ehrlacher.

“But we had a tyre issue at the end, so I had to abort a really good lap. We will have a look at it tonight and probably work quite late to be ready for qualifying tomorrow.”

Other drivers suffering punctures or delaminations with the Goodyear tyres during the practice sessions include fellow Lynk & Co drivers Yvan Muller and Santiago Urrutia, as well as Honda drivers Esteban Guerrieri and Néstor Girolami and Audi driver Gilles Magnus.
