No tyre issues on Hyundais says BRC boss Gabriele Rizzo

BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team principal Gabriele Rizzo said that his team was prepared to go racing at the Nürburgring Nordscheife prior to this weekend’s races being cancelled.

Although several team experienced tyre issues across the weekend, none of the Hyundai cars reported any damage throughout practice and qualifying.

However, organisers elected to cancel the races on safety grounds as tyre supplier Goodyear could not recommend usage before a “comprehensive analysis” of the products was carried out.

Rizzo said that he was ‘disappointed’ not to be able to race, but accepted the FIA’s decision.

“We understand and acknowledge this morning’s decision made by the FIA and we are disappointed not to be competing in Germany today,” said Rizzo.

“We were prepared to go racing safely at the Nürburgring in front of the fans as we did a race simulation on Thursday and came across no tyre-related issues during Free Practice nor Qualifying.”
