Gilles Magnus: “I’ve never done a lap like that”

Gilles Magnus claimed pole position at Motorland Aragón, leading team-mate Nathanaël Berthon for a Comtoyou Racing 1-2.

“To be honest, I didn’t expect to be in this position, as FP1 and FP2 hadn’t been very easy,” Magnus told TouringCarTimes. “We worked a lot in the setup afterwards and it paid off I think.”

“We were super quick and I’m very happy for the team and for Audi,” added the Belgian. “Now we have to finish the job tomorrow, we want to take big points and finish P1 and P2 tomorrow.”

Magnus has claimed two career pole positions in the WTCR, and both have been at Motorland Aragón: “I really like this place, it’s my second pole position here, I’ve scored the pole position twice in my WTCR career and both have been here, so I like this place!

“It was really frustrating to not be able to defend the front row we achieved at Nürburgring,” added the Comtoyou Racing driver. “It’s nice to be in the same position again and hopefully tomorrow we will have the chance to race, finish the job and get our first victory.”

While Magnus secured a strong pole, he is expecting a tougher time during the races tomorrow.

“Our car is very strong in high speeds and rear stability, this is why in qualifying we are always very strong but in the race we struggle a little bit, because the rear is too strong,” said Magnus.

“But also my lap was very clean and I don’t think there was one place where I could have been better, I’ve never done a lap like that.”
