Mikel Azcona: “We must continue working like this”

BRC Motorsport driver Mikel Azcona claimed his third victory of the 2022 season during his home race at Motorland Aragón, with the Spaniard increasing his lead in the championship.

“It was a very nice race, with a very chaotic first lap,” Azcona told TouringCarTimes. “I had a few moments on the limit with Ma (Qing Hua) and fighting with Norbi.”

“I made very good start and, after the safety car, I made use of all the available track to overtake Dániel (Nagy).”

The Hyundai driver then came under pressure from Zengo Motorsport’s Rob Huff: “I had a comfortable race, but had some pressure when Huffy caught me up, I could see he was faster in the last sector, but was able to manage it.”

Azcona heads to the next race in Portugal with a 34-point lead over Audi driver Gilles Magnus.

“Looking ahead at Vila Real there is no strategy per se, just continue working, BRC and Hyundai are doing an amazing job and we must continue like this, working so well,” said the Spaniard.

The next round of the FIA WTCR takes place at Vila Real July 2-3.
