Esteban Guerrieri leads Néstor Girolami in second practice at Sakhir
Münnich Motorsport took charge of the second free FIA WTCR practice session at Sakhir, host of the penultimate round, with Esteban Guerrieri topping the timesheets ahead of his team-mate Néstor Girolami.
Guerrieri (Honda Civic Type R TCR) clocked the fastest lap time with a 2:10.935, despite having a lap deleted because of track limits, with fellow Argentinian driver Girolami 0.244 seconds behind.
BRC Motorsport’s Mikel Azcona (Hyundai Elantra N TCR) topped the session until the final minutes, finishing in third place, 0.262 seconds behind Guerrieri.
Comtoyou’s Gilles Magnus (Audi RS 3 LMS) was fourth, 0.458 seconds off the pace, closely followed by Norbert Michelisz, driving the second Elantra N TCR.
Mehdi Bennani finished in sixth place with the second Audi from Comtoyou, ahead of team-mate Nathanäel Berthon. Tiago Monteiro was the fastest driver for Engstler Motorsport in eighth place, seven-tenths behind Guerrieri.
Franco Girolami completed an improved session of his WTCR weekend with ninth, driving an Audi for Comtoyou, ahead of Nicky Catsburg with the third of the Hyundais.
The Cupras from Zengo Motorsport were finally able to take to the track, closing the classification in their maiden run at Sakhir.
The WTCR field returns to the track on Friday morning for the qualifying session at 12:40 local time, 10:40 CET.
