Dan Cammish leads the way in Snetterton practice

Alliance Racing’s Dan Cammish topped the times in the single British Touring Car Championship practice around Snetterton, finishing more than three tenths of a second ahead of EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram.

Basking in bright sunshine at the Norfolk circuit, the Ford Focus Titanium driver surged to the summit in the closing stages of the hour-long session, with his time of 1:55.066s being the benchmark to beat.

The Hyundai of Ingram emerged as the closest challenger to Cammish while his team-mate Tom Chilton also enjoyed a solid run around the 2.97-mile track – the longest on the calendar – as he completed the top three late on.

Power Maxed Racing’s Dexter Patterson was next up in fourth in his Audi A3 Saloon, with Plato Racing’s Dan Rowbottom and championship leader Ash Sutton hot on his heels in fifth and sixth respectively.

Next in the order was Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley in seventh ahead of Gordon Shedden, Aiden Moffat and James Dorlin who completed the top ten.

The session was extended from 40 minutes to one hour to allow teams to familiarise themselves with a change over in brake pad material.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 14:00 with the grid splitting into two groups, each of which will be allotted 15 minutes for drivers to set their best time, which will in-turn decide the grid for the inaugural Qualifying Race.

The group with the fastest qualifying time will occupy the odd-numbered grid positions for the Qualifying Race, ordered by their respective qualifying times. The other group will occupy the even-numbered grid positions, also ordered by qualifying times.

Once qualifying has completed, the pit lane will open and cars will head to the grid for what is being titled as the ‘Race for Pole’. There, an 8-lap race will ensue to decide the grid for Sunday’s opener, with half points on offer too.
