Weight benefit for BMW this weekend with new doors

The BMW customer teams in the FIA World Touring Car Championship will be running at their lightest ever in the Championship this weekend, as the FIA has approved new carbon fibre doors for all of the teams competing with the 320 TC

With compensation weight coming into effect from this weekend, the BMWs were allocated the lowest possible weight of 1,130kg for this weekend, but the teams were waiting for the latest update which should bring the cars’ weight down by 20-25kg this weekend.

Waivers already granted last year for the BMW teams include plastic rear windows to help bring the cars weight down, as its viewed that increasing the weight of the most competitive cars will have a seriously detrimental impact to tyre wear.

The newer specification BMWs are viewed to be lighter than the other cars, which should work in the favour of the two Italian teams ROAL Motorsport and PB Racing, which may be able to run at or near the minimum weight.
