Chen Jun San leaps into ATCS points lead

Team AAI/Buddy Club made a surprise switch to the Honda Accord last weekend at Sentul, and with a double victory has now taken the lead of the series by 33 points from JAS’s Kenneth Lau.

Kenneth Lau had taken pole position for the first race in his JAS Motorsport Honda Accord, but it was Chen Jun San who took victory ahead of Lau by just under a second, struggling with a faulty gearbox.

Teah AAI/Buddy Club had expanded to two cars for the event, with the team adding an Accord to the line-up for Chen Han Chen, with Chen Jun San due to continue with his ex-Team Dynamics BTCC Honda Civic FN, but the two swapped cars before qualifying.

“We had some problems with the gearbox five laps into the race and a fast driver, Ken Lau, was right behind me and was ready to overtake at every corner,” said Chen.

“I had a lot of pressure so I am very happy with the result.”

Chen Jun San went on to win race two, working his way up from his sixth place starting position thanks to the reversed grid. The Taiwanese driver won the race after 15 laps from the two Team IMSP Honda Civics of Danny Stacy Chau and Man Ting Yo.

The next round of the championship is due to be held in October at an unconfirmed location.
