Back to Zhuhai for the penultimate round of the year

The China Touring Car Championship returns to Zhuhai for the second time during the 2013 season this weekend, with Ford looking to defend their lead in the standings from Volkswagen.

The Chang’an Ford FRD team has a healthy lead in the drivers’ and manufacturers’ standings after Jiang Tengyi’s victory at the Guangdong International Circuit last time out in September.

Ford can secure the manufacturers’ title one race early this weekend in Zhuhai if they outscore Shanghai VW 333 Racing by two points.

The VW team is confident of being able to fight back however, winning at the Zhuhai circuit the first time the Championship visited there back in May, and with strong improvements in performance seen at Chengdu.

Kia missed the opening race due to issues with documentation, but the team’s three drivers will be chasing the South Korean manufacturer’s first win of the season this weekend after a difficult race at Guangdong, where Michael Soong finished in sixth position.

G Racing will be the only privateer entry this weekend, fielding their Chevrolet Cruzes for Kenneth Look and Zhang Zhi Qiang.

Qualifying will be held at 16:35 local time on Saturday 12th October.
