Han Han wins in Zhuhai, Chang’an Ford take title

Shanghai VW 333 Racing driver Han Han won the penultimate round of the 2013 China Touring Car Championship, but his victory wasn’t enough to stop Chang’an Ford FRD Team from winning the manufacturers’ title, with Ford drivers Martie Xie and Rainey He finishing second and third.

Han Han led the race from start to finish in the Volkswagen Pole 1.6T, while the G Racing Chevrolet of Kenneth Look was passed in short order by the Volkswagen of Guo Hua Yang and Rainey He’s Ford Focus.

Look tried to get back ahead of He on the second lap with a late breaking manoeuvre, but ran off the track and fell down the order, recovering to finish in tenth position.

Martin Xie and Jiang Tengyi found themselves in fourth and fifth positions after Look’s error, but Zheng Zhen Dong’s VW Polo was able to pass Jiang’s Ford on the fourth lap, with Xie passing He for third position.

Guo Hua Yang’s Polo had a mechanical problem on lap five and dropped to ninth position. The two Kia K2s of Huang Chu Han and Lin Le Feng retired from the race due to mechanical failures and an accident respectively.

Following Ford finishing second, third, fifth and seventh in the race, they win this year’s manufacturers’ title, currently on 185 points.

In the drivers’ standings, Ford’s Andy Yan continues to lead on 64 points, with Jiang Tengyi on second with 51 points and Volkswagen’s Wang Rue third on 48.

The final round of the 2013 China Touring Car Championship takes place on November 3rd at the Shanghai International Circuit, supporting the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
