Zhuhai hosts the second round of the 2014 CTCC this weekend

The China Touring Car Championship heads to the Zhuhai International Circuit this weekend for the second round of the Championship, with Volkswagen’s Jiang Tengyi aiming to defend his lead from his former team, Changan Ford FRD Team.

The Shanghai VW 333 Racing Team has reason to feel confident after their successes at the circuit last year, with drivers Wang Rue and Han Han winning both races held at the circuit as Rounds 1 and 7 of the Championship in 2013.

The Changan Ford FRD Team will be aiming for a serious fight-back in the forthcoming round. The Ford team looked unstoppable after qualifying two weeks’ ago at Guangdong, securing the top four positions in qualifying, but fell behind Jiang’s VW Polo during the race, with former WTCC driver Darryl O’Young the closest challenger to Jiang, finishing in second place.

Team Work Motorsport, the only privateer on the Super Production grid, were forced to miss the last race due to technical issues with their Citroën C-Elysées, with Sunny Wong’s car suffering a clutch failure moments before the race after qualifying closest to the Fords.

The team have invited Martin Ma Qing Hua, the fourth driver of the factory Citroën Total WTCC Team to test their cars after the first weekend at Guangdong and are looking forward to their first proper appearance this weekend in Zhuhai.

Final wild cards entries for the event are yet to be confirmed, after a number of Honda Integra DC5s as well as a pair of normally aspirated Chevrolet Cruze LTs were entered in the last round of the Championship.

Qualifying will be held at 16:00 (local time) on May 10th
