Martin Xie leads Ford top three lockout in Zhuhai qualifying

Martin Xie has taken pole position for the second round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship for Changan Ford FRD team, with Ford taking the top three spots on the grid.

The qualifying session took place under wet conditions, with Ford’s Andy Yan setting the first target with a time of 2:00.721, later improveing that to a time of 1:59.775. But his time was beaten by Wang Rue of Shanghai VW 333 Racing, who set a time of 1:58.730.

Martin Xie then grabbed pole position with a time of 1:57.770 after a late charge from the Changan Ford FRD Team, which pushed the three Volkswagen Polos down to fourth through sixth positions

Jiang Tengyi, the winner of the first CTCC round held at the Guangdong International Circuit two weeks ago, ended up in ninth position, just one place behind his ex-team-mate Rainey He.

Team Work Motorsport, the privateer team which missed the first race of the season due to technical issues, saw Alex Hui qualify seventh in his Citroen C-Elysee and Sunny Wong tenth albeit without setting a time, with just ten cars competing this weekend.

The CTCC Super Production race will be held at 13:15 on Sunday.
