CTCC joins the WTCC for a second weekend in Shanghai

This weekend the seventh round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit, again supporting the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

With Jiang Tengyi now classed as the winner of the last round in Beijing, albeit following post race stewards decisions, the Shanghai VW 333 Racing team is reinvigorated as it now looks possible to overhaul the previously extreme points gap to the Changan Ford FRD driver Martin Xie.

The Changan Ford FRD Team still maintains a healthy lead in both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championship however. This weekend, the team will field a replacement for Darryl O’Young, who has clashing commitments driving with Craft-Bamboo Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship at Fuji. O’Young and Bamboo will also return to Macau next month, though this time in the GT Cup category instead of their usual berth on the WTCC grid.

After a strong weekend in Beijing, G Racing continue to dominate the privateer class with their Chevrolet Cruzes, with Jason Zhang and Kenneth Look officially classified in second and fourth in the last race. G Racing’s privateer competitors, Team Work Motorsport, will be back with their Citroën C-Elysées for Sunny Wong and Alex Hui, and looked strong in qualifying at Beijing taking pole before they were disqualified for having an illegal air restrictor.

Qualifying takes place at 12:00 CST on Saturday 11th October.
