Yancheng qualifying postponed to Sunday morning

The second part of Saturday’s qualifying for the season finale of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship has been postponed until Sunday morning following an accident for Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Wang Rue at the end of the first session.

Due to the small size of the Yancheng street circuit, the qualifying session was split into two parts for the CTCC Super Production Class.

Henry Ho of the Dong Feng Honda team took provisional pole in the first session, with his team-mate Peter Li Zhe Cong making it a potential Honda 1-2, with Wang Rue setting the third fastest time in his Volkswagen Polo 1.6T.

Wang however went off on his last run near the end of the session and damaged the safety barriers at the track, which required too much time to repair in the fading light, and so the second segment of qualifying has been moved to Sunday.

Therefore only eight drivers have set times so far, with both of the Kia Racing drivers, Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Han Han, Changan Ford FRD’s Huang Chu Han and the four privateers cars of the Team Work Citroën squad and G Racing’s Chevrolets still waiting to set their times.

The provisional grid is shown below, with championship contenders Martin Xie (Changan Ford) and Jiang Tengyi (Volkswagen) qualifying seventh and fifth respectively.
