Jason Zhang leads Kia 1-2 in qualifying at Guangdong

Jason Zhang Zhi Qiang and Larry Lin Le Feng qualified first and second for the opening round of the 2015 China Touring Car Championship at the Guangdong International Circuit, with Andy Yan of Changan Ford FRD Team in third.

With the Haima Z1 factory team not present for the opening round, as well as G Racing’s Chevrolet Cruzes, Martin Xie of Honda and Leo Yi Hong Li from Kia Racing, the Super Production grid only consisted of 16 cars.

Jason Zhang of Kia Racing took pole position in the latter part of the qualifying session. Zhang’s team-mate Larry Lin Le Feng set the second fastest time, just under a second behind after repairing the driveshaft within the session after it failed right at the start.

Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Wang Rue, who qualified fourth overall, was the fastest driver in the newly introduced 2.0T class. Wang’s team-mates Jiang Tengyi and Han Han, qualified tenth and 12th respectively, but under the CTCC Committee’s Balance of Performance rules for the new class, the three VWs will be ranked in 11th to 13th places, just in front of Teamwork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong, Ruixi Racings’ Kelvin Leong and Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Song Bo.

The CTCC Super Production race is scheduled for 13:15 CST tomorrow.
