Paul Poon leads Teamwork Motorsports 1-2 in CTM Macau Cup

Paul Poon of Teamwork Motorsport won the CTM Macau Cup this weekend. His team-mate Samson Fung and Fu Lei Loi Racing’s Chou Keng Kuan finished second and third.

Andy Yan of Team AG Group, starting from third position, passed Samson Fung and progressed into second place, but he crashed his Peugeot RCZ at the Solitude Esses on Lap 2 and retired from the race, thus promoting Fung and his team-mate Andrew Lo into second and third.

Yan’s accident caused the deployment of the the safety car session up until lap five of the race.

At the restart, Macanese driver Chou Keng Kuan of Fu Lei Loi Racing was now fighting for the higher positions. He passed Filipe de Souza on lap six, and then passed his team-mate Chao Chong In and 9’s Racing’s Patrick Chan on laps seven and eight.

Chou then moved up into third place on lap 11 when Andrew Lo crashed at Moorish Hill, with Lo ending up in seventh at the finish.

Paul Poon and Samson Fung led throughout the race and finished 1-2 after the 12 laps.

Chao Chong In and Felipe C de Souza, who finished 4th and 5th, were the highest placed MINI Cooper S and Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T drivers respectively.

Wong Kiang Kuen of Veng Iec Racing was the highest placed driver driving Ford Fiesta ST, finishing down 15th.

Only 25 cars finished the 12 lap race from the 33 competitors on the starting grid.
