Andy Yan makes it two from two for Liqui Moly Team Engstler in Thailand

Andy Yan won the fourth round of the TCR Asia series at the Buriram International Circuit, driving from tenth to first to claim his second win of the day behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, while chief rival Tin Sritrai had another race to forget in his Honda Civic TCR.

Terence Tse started from pole position in the Roadstar Racing SEAT León Cup Racer, and he kept the lead into Turn 1 while Douglas Khoo stalled alongside him on the front row in the Viper Niza Racing SEAT León TCR.

Further back, the Honda Civic TCR of Narasak Ittiritpong also stalled in the Vattana Motorsport-run Honda leaving team-mate Jack Lemvard to star at the start, with the Thai driver up to second from eighth on the grid in his SEAT León TCR.

Up to third was Champ Motorsport’s Henry Ho, but the Macanese driver slid wide in the Honda while battling Lemvard for second through Turn 6 and dropped five places.

Terence Tse’s lead lasted for less than a lap as Lemvard made a lunge down the inside on the final turn. Tse was pushed out wide, with Lemvard now ahead, with the move also allowing the two Volkswagens of Kevin Tse and Andy Yan through, with all three cars going side-by-side down the main straight with Kevin Tse emerging as the new race leader.

Kevin Tse’s lead in the Teamwork Motorsport Volkswagen ended a few corners later at Turn 3 as he locked up, allowing Yan through into the lead, with the Hong Kong driver cruising on to take a comfortable victory, going from tenth to first in two laps.

Tse was challenged by Tin Sritrai in the Team Thailand Honda Civic for a few laps, before the Thai driver again slowed with his third technical issue in as many sessions.

The field then spread themselves out as the race continued, with Yan going on to take victory from Kevin Tse by 3.6 seconds.

Henry Ho would eventually finish third, with Filipe de Souza fourth in the second Engstler Volkswagen Golf.

Jack Lemvard, struggling for pace with possible damage from his first lap clash with Terence Tse finished fifth.

The next round of the TCR Asia series takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit on August 19th.
