Adam Morgan leads Volkswagen 1-2 on his CTCC debut in Korea

British driver Adam Morgan won the first race of the weekend in South Korea, leading team-mate Wang Rue in a Shanghai VW 333 Racing 1-2, with the 27-year-old leading from start to finish in the CTCC’s Super Cup 2.0T class.

Dan Wells mounted an early charge in his Changan Ford Focus, but retired on the first lap with damage, making contact with Hong Kong driver Alex Hui, who fell from second to ninth as a result in the Teamwork Motorsport Citroën C-Elysée.

Volkswagen’s championship point-man Jiang Tengyi made progress in the race and was up to fourth position by the end of lap three, with the German marque on course to perhaps lock-out the podium for the first time with the new Lamando GTS after a tricky start to the season, but sadly he’d soon retire with a mechanical issue.

This handed Andy Yan third for Ford, with fellow Ford FRD Team drivers Martin Cao finishing in fourth and fifth.

Zhang Zhen Dong finished in sixth position, the last of the Volkswagens to make the finish, with Alex Hui recovering to seventh in the privateer Citroën.

Dennis Zhang for Linky Racing Audi and the two BAIC Senovas of Juan Carlos Zhu and David Zhu completed the top ten.

Rainey He continues to lead the championship, but is now just one point ahead of team-mate Martin Cao, with Race 2 taking place tomorrow at 14:40 local time with the reversed grid.
