Uruguayan Mauricio Lambiris to replace Ferenc Ficza at Termas

Turismo Nacional regular Mauricio Lambiris will join Zengo Motorsport as a last minute replacement at Termas de Río Hondo, filling in the space left vacant by team’s regular driver Ferenc Ficza, who recently underwent surgery due to appendicitis.

The 28-year-old was born in Uruguay, but has spent most of his career in Argentina. After coming third in the 2014 TC Pista championship, he went on to race in Turismo Carretera, driving a Torino Cherokee. He currently drives a Ford Focus in the Turismo Nacional category in Argentina.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for me,” said Lambiris. “When I was flying here I understand that the Zengő team did not have one driver here so I tried to close the deal with the team and here we are. For me it’s positive. I know the circuit because we race here all the years and that will help me. I’m very excited, it’s very important, the most important race in my career.”

Lambiris’ addition means there will still be 19 cars on the grid on Sunday, and Lambiris will also be the first Uruguayan driver to race in a World Touring Car Championship event.
