Darryl O’Young joins BAIC for the 2017 CTCC

Darryl O’Young will race for the BAIC Senova factory team in this year’s China Touring Car Championship, joining bothers David and Juan Zhu as part of a three-car line-up.

O’Young returns to the CTCC after two years away, previously racing partial seasons for the Changan Ford FRD Team. O’Young will race in the CTCC alongside his commitments with Craft-Bamboo Racing in the Blancpain GT Series Asia.

“The CTCC has really grown from strength to strength over the past couple seasons,” said O’Young. “Anytime there is such a huge amount of factory entries, there is going to be a quick rise in the level of competition. This year’s entry sees strong international drivers alongside some of the region’s top touring car drivers, so I expect it to be a very hard-fought season ahead.”

The BAIC Senova D60 was a winning car last year, with both David Zhu and Rob Huff taking victories for the team at Jun Chi.

“When I was in discussion with BAIC over the winter, it was obvious that they were serious about their future in touring car racing,” added O’Young.

“They took their first race win in 2016 with Rob Huff behind the wheel, which really showed the potential of the BAIC Senova. There has been a lot of development work done to the car over the past couple months, and after driving the car for a few days, we already established some quick lap times and good balance in the car, so I’m looking forward to facing off against the other teams next week.”
