Thomas heads up all BMW podium

Seth Thomas took his first win since Watkins Glen, leading home a BMW 1-2-3 at Road Atlanta.

Fellow Bimmerworld drivers James Clay and Nick Esayian came home in second and third to take a rare all BMW podium.

Kuno Wittmer had a poor start from the front row, and dropped to fourth for much of the race.

Nick Esayian started from pole, but made an error on lap 15 allowing the BMW 328 of Thomas through and on to the win. James Clay, who was fastest in qualifying – also managed to pass Esayian later in the race for second.

Seth Thomas said of his win:
“We’ve been close to winning before here. My home track really has been a jinx for me. I’ve had some good luck. But, many times, the finishing results have been bad luck. This win was very special for my family – especially with my grandfather being here – it was extra special because he is 86. I wanted him to see me win here at my home track. I wanted him to see it in person. It was ultra important for me.”

Eric Foss was top of the TriPoint Motorsports Mazda’s in fifth. Jason Saini actually extends his championship lead on Florida driver Pierre Kleinubing, on account of finishing eighth, two places ahead of the Acura.
