Scion confirm two car effort in WC
Scion will return to World Challenge in 2010, after winning in the TC2 class at the last race of 2009, with Scott Webb then driving the Scion tC.
Now run as DG-Spec, the No.18 car will return again, with a quickly prepared second car ready to take to the streets of St. Petersburg in just over a week’s time.
Team owner Dan Gardner said:
“This is a huge step forward for Scion and the team,” said Gardner. “I’m excited to launch the DG-Spec line and go both feet (and cars) into the World Challenge series. Huge thanks to all our sponsors and supporters that made this happen. We pushed everyone hard, and everyone stepped up their game to make this possible.”
Robert Stout, the 18 year old reigning NASA PTA National Champion will drive the appropriately numbered car 18, and it will be his first experience in a front wheel car:
“Before I drove the Scion tC, I had no idea what to expect from a front-wheel-drive racecar like the Scion,” Stout Said. “My first time behind the wheel blew me away. The car is seriously fast and it’s going to be awesome to race it in World Challenge!”
The No.36 car, which will be shared by Gardner and Lepper, has been turned from a road car to the World Challenge Touring Car specificaion racer in just three weeks.
“I honestly don’t know how they did it,” said Steve Hatanaka, Scion auto shows and special events manager. “This might be the fastest a pro road racing car has ever come together. It’s truly a testament to the team. I can only imagine the sacrifice and commitment. Scion is pumped to be a part of this, as Gardner and the DG-Spec team ready for war in the World Challenge series.”
The team will departing for the first round of the season in Florida this week, which takes place at St. Petersburg on May 27th & May 28th.
