Buras wins first race of the season

Todd Buras has won the first race of the season for Irish Mike’s Racing in the Volkswagen Jetta. DG Spec Scion’s complete the podium.

Mark Hein kept the lead of the race from the start and built up a good cushion to Todd Buras, but a caution period to recover one of the GT class cars bunched the field up.

Once the safety car was in, in a few laps, Buras’ Jetta and Stout’s Scion tC managed to pass Hein’s Civic, but only for a few laps, as on lap 19, Hein managed to get past Robert Stout to retake second place.

With two laps to go, Hein spun out of second place and was narrowly avoided by Stout. Hein retired on the following lap unable to return to the pits with a flat tyre.

Todd Buras went on to take his first win for Irish Mike’s Racing in the Volkswagen Jetta, with Robert Stout taking second in the DG Spec Scion, and team mate Dan Gardner securing third, who also collected the hard charger award for most positions gained.

The second race meeting of the weekend will take place on Sunday.
