Nick Wittmer cruises to class pole

Canadian driver Nick Wittmer has claimed pole position for the World Challenge race at Long Beach for HPD Honda Racing.

Wittmer is the reigning Castrol Canadian Touring Car champion, but this is his first race in the SCCA World Challenge Touring class this season.

Robert Stout has qualified second in the DG-Spec Scion tC, with Eric Meyer’s XOWii Racing Mazda RX-8 third position in the Touring Car class.

In the GTS (former Touring Car class), another series debutant for 2010 has taken pole position, with Tyler McQuarrie in a Lotus Exige.

GTS series leader Peter Cunningham will start second in the GTS class in his Acura TSX, ahead of team mate Nick Esayian.

Charles Espanlaub has qualified the returning Tri-Point Motorsports Mazda3 in sixth, but will relinquish the seat to Patrick Dempsey, who was unable to attend the qualifying session due to filming duties.
