Bumper field for Mid-Ohio round
The number of cars competing in the World Challenge touring classes continues to grow, with a season record entered for next week’s race at Mid-Ohio.
With the Touring Class regulations re-written during the off season, the category had a shaky start, but for round six of the eight event championship, the number of cars has doubled since the season start, with 14 cars entered in TC for Mid-Ohio.
A strong mix of manufacturers will also be found racing, with two Scion tC’s, three Mazda RX-8’s, three Volkswagen’s (two Jetta’s, one Golf), an Acura TSX, a Chevrolet Cobalt and four Honda Civic Si’s all on the entry list.
The newest Civic Si is being entered by Tuaty Leira Motorsports, the car has been built in less than 30 days to get ready for it’s season debut, demonstrating the low-cost, fast development nature of the new regulations. The No.36 Scion tC of DG-Spec’s Dan Gardner was constructed in similar time constraints at the beginning of the season.
The GTS class will also feature a stronger seven car field, with three Ford Mustang’s of RPMotorsports entered for the race just a few days after the series announcement about the future of the class. The Mustang’s are from the Mustang Challenge series, which has already raced at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar course this year and is likely to threaten the Real-Time Acura TSX’s of Peter Cunningham and Nick Esayian.
