Ryan Eversley takes the double at Mid-Ohio

Ryan Eversley has won both races at Mid-Ohio in his first weekend in the World Challenge series, both times just heading home Jason Saini. Dan Gardner took third.

Saini started from pole position in his Team MER Mazdaspeed3, and held position ahead of Robb Holland’s VW & Nick Wittmer’s Honda Civic, until the Civic fell back with transmission issues.

Eversley passed both the Scion’s to catch up to the leading trio, fighting hard with Holland, making slight contact on lap 7 but both continued, though Holland would later retire after contact with a GT car.

On lap 12, Eversley passed Saini for the lead, and stayed their for the rest of the race.

Robert Stout finished tenth, allowing Eric Meyer to catch-up in the standings this weekend – with Meyer now just 149 points behind on 810.

A strong weekend for Mazda saw them move to second in the manufacturers championship ahead of Volkswagen, with Scion still leading.

Eversley was delighted to seal his second victory:
“The standing start today wasn’t as good for me as yesterday, I bogged down with the rotary and Nick Wittmer’s Honda and a couple of other cars got by me. I was able to fight back to third in a couple of laps and had a great battle with Robb Holland. I gave him a little room and we got into each other a little bit, but it was just hard racing and totally fine. Jason and I had a great battle and I can’t wait to see the in-car video of that. We went back and forth down the backstraight and he just outbroke himself and I kind of got in a little too hot, too. I have to thank Maxwell Paper for letting me come drive their Mazda, I had so much fun.”
