2014 CTCC under two weeks and just two teams entered so far

With the start of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship season just two weeks away, just Ford and Volkswagen are confirmed to compete this season, with more teams hoped to confirm their plans in the coming days.

The Changan Ford FRD Team and Shanghai VW 333 Racing Team have both confirmed their plans to compete in the Super Production this year. As reported on TouringCarTimes on April 4th, Changan Ford FRD Team has already confirmed ex-WTCC driver Darryl O’Young will drive their Ford Focus, joining Andy Yan, Rainey He and Martin Xie.

Moving the other way is Jiang Tengyi, who announced a switch to Shanghai VW 333 Racing when the Ford team confirmed their drivers’ line-up. This is also more convenient for the Shanghai-based Jiang, with the team operating out the Shanghai Tianma Circuit, as opposed to the Hong Kong based Changan Ford FRD Team.

He will partner Wang Xue and Zhang Zhen Dong during the 2014 season. Han Han, the 2012 CTCC Super Production drivers’ champion, will be absent for the first part of the season while he completes work on a film.

Teams that have competed in previous years are yet to confirm their plans, including Kia Racing, Dongfeng Honda Racing, G-Racing and ASR de Marco.

The CTCC Committee has also introduced a budget-friendly concept for 2014 of an official chassis and engine supplier, based on the Next Generation Touring Car model used in the UK, with RML involved in the chassis and Swindon Engines the power train. The committee provided a list of eligible cars for the Super Production classes to other teams, but as yet it has not yielded any new or returning entries.

The first round of CTCC will be held on April 27th at the Guangdong International Circuit.
